2007 Andy LaRoche Game-Used Rawlings Big Stick Bat - Steiner COA/Holo Certified Bat.
This bat was used by Major League pitcher Andy Laroche, most likely during the 2007 MLB season. The bat is a black Rawlings (Adirondack) Big Stick Andy LaRoche Professional Model. It shows nice use with ball marks, ink transfers and some pine tar on the barrel and is not cracked (uncracked). Written in white paint marker on the handle knob is LaRoche's #28 uniform number, but it is kind of faint and coming off. There is a neat wrap of tape that is almost eight long on the handle. Ball marks are bold enough that photo-matching should be possible.
Attached to the bat next to his imprinted signature and name is a Steiner Sports serial numbered hologram. The bat comes with a letter from Steiner, with a matching hologram, that notes this is a "Andy LaRoche Dodgers Game Used Bat" and that is was "obtained as part of the Dodgers - Steiner Collectibles Program, a direct partnership between the Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Club and Steiner Sports Memorabilia." I believe this bat was used in early 2007 as it was then that LaRoche used this type of bat. In his first Dodgers uniform press photo, he is holding a bat like this and in the first Dodger games he used this style of bat. Search the internet and you can find a few other Laroche used Big Stick bats. Longtime memoribillia seller Legends of the Falls notes Steiner has a list price of $575 for the bat and they want $400 for one like this. Sports Memorabilia and Ready Golf are also offering a Steiner certified LaRoche game used bat, and they also want $400.00. This is not a $400 bat. I wish it was. See my other auctions for more Game-Used Bats. The bat comes with a free Bat Tube ($10.00 value).
Professional Major League Baseball infielder Andrew Christian LaRoche was born September 13, 1983 in Fort Scott, Kansas, and is the son of former MLB pitcher Dave LaRoche and the brother of current MLB first baseman Adam LaRoche. LaRoche attended Crayson County College and was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2003 MLB Draft. In 2005, LaRoche hit .333 with 21 home runs and 51 RBI's and was called up to Double-A Jacksonville Suns. At Jacksonville, he hit .273 with 9 HRs and 43 RBI. He was voted the Dodgers Minor League Player of the Year. LaRoche started 2006 in Jacksonville and hit .309 with 9 HRs and 46 RBI, earning a call-up to the Triple-A club Las Vegas 51s, where he went.322 with 10 HRs and 35 RBI. LaRoche made his Major League debut with the Dodgers on May 6, 2007 and recorded his first hit (a ground rule double). LaRoche would see decent playing time during the year due to Nomar Garciaparra's injury problems. Traded by the Dodgers to the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 31, 2008 in a multi-player deal that sent Manny Ramirez to Los Angeles. Since the start of the 2009 season, LaRoche has been Pittsburgh Pirates starting third baseman.
