The Bobby Mitchell card in this product is shown in the scans provided below. This vintage '67 Philadelphia card has been graded by PSA the leader in graded cards, as PSA NM-MT 8. Card is PSA #16378002. Great looking card with awesome centering and corners. Nice back.
Former professional football halfback/flanker Robert "Bobby" Cornelius Mitchell was born June 6, 1935 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Mitchell attended the University of Illinois where he played NCAA college football and competed on the Track Team with the Illinois Fighting Illini from 1954 to 1958. On the gridiron, Mitchell took over the halfback position his sophomore season, running for 64 yards and a touchdown the first time he handled the football. Mitchell went on to rush for more then 100 yards in the remaining two games of the season and averaged a team record 8.6 yards per a rush. Mitchell earned All-Big Ten football first-team honors in 1955 and second-team status in 1957. In Track, Mitchell set an indoor world record in Febuary 1958 (one that lasted only six days) with a 7.7 mark in the 70-yard low hurdles. In the Big Ten championships, he scored 13 points and helped Illinois win the title. The Cleveland Browns selected Bobby Mitchell in the 7th round of the 1958 NFL Draft. Mitchell played with the Cleveland Browns from 1958 to 1961 and the Washington Redskins from 1962 to 1968. With exceptional speed, uncanny faking ability and balance., Mitchell was one of the premiere running backs of the 1960s, who was noted for his spectacular long-distance scoring plays. When he retired, his 14,078 combined net yards was the second highest total in NFL history. Mitchell had also scored an amazing 91 touchdowns. Eighteen of his touchdowns came by rushing, 65 on receptions, 3 on punt returns, and 5 on kickoff returns. He amassed 7,954 yards on receptions and 2,735 yards on rushes. Mitchell was a 4-time Pro Bowl selection (1960, 1962-1964) and a 5-time All-Pro selection (1959, 1960, 1962-1965). Mitchell is a member of the Washington Redskins Ring of Fame, a member of the "70 Greatest Redskins" and was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1983.
