JaH 073 L6 METEORITE
The JaH 073 Meteorite in this product is shown in the photographs shown below. The specimen is a natural fragment that weighs a hefty 1005 grams. It has an unusual boomerang shape. I have included a ruler (not included in product) in the photograph for a size reference. Meteorite will come with a (signed) description card.
Jiddat al Harasis 073 L6 was found in Omen by a team of meteorite hunters doing field work. Meteorites were collected during three different field trips Jan. - Feb. 2001, Dec. 2001 - Jan 2002, and Sept. 2002 to Jan. 2003 by this team. The field work was a joint project with the central deserts of the Sultanate of Oman with the mission of collection representation meteorites for find and fall statistics analysis. JaH 073 was the largest strewnfield found during this program and was discovered during the second field trip on January 17, 2002. 2768 pieces totaling ~550 kg. was recovered Classified a stone chondrite L6, S4, W2-3. Fa (mol%) 25.3, Fs (mol%) 22.4, Wo (mol%) 1.2. Classification work performed by E. Gnos, B. Hofmann and A. Al-Kathiri, Bern National History Museum (Bern, Switzerland). Coordinates of find: 19'42"N., 55'44" E. This meteorite was reported in Meteoritical Bulletin, No. 87, July 2003. This meteorite is highly shocked and slices show many veins of the cosmic impact created mineral, Ringwoodite.
