1981 18¢ FLOWER STAMP SET + 2006 DISNEY ROMANCE STAMP FDC COMBO COVER
Another nice collectible for your consideration. You are looking on one (1) 1981 18¢ Flower Stamps + 2006 39¢ Disney Romance Stamp FDC Combo Cover. Cachet features various flowers. It was franked with a complete 1981 18¢ Flower Stamp Set and canceled "APR 23 1981" in "FORT VALLEY, GA" and the cancel has in it "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE." The cover was franked again with a 2006 39¢ Art of Disney Romance (Beauty & Beast Mouse) Stamp and canceled "APR 21 2006" in "ORLANDO FL" with the USPS "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" pictorial cancel. Neat combo that is possibly the only one of it's kind. Cover is shown in the photograph below.
The 1981 18¢ Flower Stamps were first issued on Friday, April 3, 1981 in Fort Valley, Georgia 31030. These United States commemorative postage stamps feature paintings by well known floral artist Lowell Nesbitt of New York City. The stamps depict popular flowers cultivated in the United States; the camellia, the lilly, the dahlia and the rose. Each flower appears with a large blooming bud in the center of a light pink background. Beneath the flower, in one line of blue type, is the flower's name and "USA 18¢." The later refers to the stamp's eighteen-cent face value. Modeled by Frank J. Waslick. Printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) in Washington, D.C., using a Gravure press with pink, yellow, light red, light blue, dark blue and dark red ink on white paper. Issued in panes of 48, 12 se-tenants. The stamps are known to philatelic collectors as: 1981 18¢ Rose Stamp, US Scott #1876; 1981 18¢ Camellia Stamp, US Scott #1877; 1981 18¢ Dahlia Stamp, US Scott #1878 and 1981 18¢ Lily Stamp, US Scott #1879. At the time of release, the 18-cent denomination paid for domestic 1 oz. first-class letter rate.
The 2006 39¢ Art of Disney Romance Beauty & Beast Stamp is was first issued by the USPS on 9:30 a.m. (EDT) Friday, April 21, 2006 at the Walt Disney World Resort, Epcot, Lake Buena Vista, Florida. This United States commemorative postage stamp is from the third release in the popular Art of Disney series. The first, issued in 2004, was on the theme of Friendship. The second, issued in 2005, focused on Celebration. The sheet this stamp is from spotlights on Romance. To design this stamp, Art Director Terrence McCaffrey joined the Disney team including creative director David Pacheco from Burbank, California and illustrator Peter Emmerich of New York City, NY. The self-adhesive features a charming Beast giving a rose to a smiling Beauty. while"39 USA" in the upper left corner refer's to the stamp's thirty-nine cent face value. Modeled by Joseph Sheeran and printed with an offset press by Ashton Potter (USA) Ltd. in Williamsville, N.Y. The stamp measures 1.225 by 1.56 inches (or 31.115 by 39.624 mm.) and is known to collectors as US Scott Catalogue #4027.
