1983-1984 MADONNA & CHILD STAMP CEREMONY PROGRAMS, CARDS, FDC+Another nice collectible for your consideration. You are looking on a lot of 1983-1984 Madonna & Child Stamp Programs, Cards, FDC+. This interesting lot includes a couple different Madonna and Child Ceremony Programs and related Greetings Cards. The Greeting Cards were sold from the National Gallery of Art where the original paintings are and where the stamps were first issued. Lot includes: (1.) 1983 Madonna & Child Stamp Ceremony Program (stamp included inside with First Day of Issue Cancel); (2.) a 1983 National Gallery of Art Greeting Card with the same painting used on the stamp on the cover. Card has a hand written message; (3.) a 1983 Madonna & Child Stamp First Day Cover. The '83 greeding card was shipped in this envelope; (4.) 1984 Madonna & Child Stamp Ceremony Program (stamp included inside with First Day of Issue Cancel) and (5.) a 1984 National Gallery of Art Greeting Card with the same painting on the cover and the stamp canceled inside with a First Day of Issue Cancel. Card has a hand written message from a couple to another couple.The 1983 20¢ Madonna & Child Stamp was first issued in ceremony on Friday, October 28, 1983 at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., where the original painting hangs. This commemorative "traditional" postage stamp marked the 22nd year of Holiday issues and was the 10th Madonna & Child Stamp. Designed by Bradbury Thompson of Riverside, Connecticut, it features the oil on wood painting "Niccolini-Cowper Madonna Cowper" (circa 1508) by Italian Renaissance painter Sanzio Raphael (1483-1520) and honors the 500th anniversary of his birth year. In black ink below the painting is "Raphael, 1483-1983, National Gallery" and above in red ink is "Christmas USA 20¢." The later refers to the stamp's twenty-cent face value. Modeled by Ronald C. Sharpe. Printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Priting (BEP) in Washington, D.C. on the Gravure press with yellow, magenta, cyan, black and red type inks on white paper in subject plates of 200, issued in panes (sheets) of 50 individually perforated. This stamp measures 0.84 by 1.44 inches (or 21.33 by 36.57 mm.) and is known to philatelic collectors as US Scott Catalogue #2063. At the time of release, the 20-cent denomination paid for domestic 1 oz. first-class letter rate.The 1984 20¢ Madonna & Child Stamp was first issued in ceremony on Tueday, October 30, 1984 at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., where the original painting hangs. In black ink below the painting is "Fra Filippo Lippi, National Gallery" and above in red ink is "Christmas USA 20¢." The later refers to the stamp's twenty-cent face value. Modeled by Ronald C.
