Brooks attended the University of Virginia where he played NCAA college football with the Virginia Cavaliers from 1995 to 1998. The Green Bay Packers selected Aaron Brooks in the fourth round of the 1999 NFL Amateur Draft. In 2000, Brooks took over as the Saints starter quarterback in the relief of an injured Jeff Blake in Week 11 and took every starting snap until the last month of the 2005 season, when he was benched.
