1959 ARMY VS NAVY TICKET STUBAnother nice collectible for your consideration. You are looking on one (1) 1959 Army vs Navy Ticket Stub. This ticket stub is for the Saturday, November 28, 1959 United States Military Academy (USMA or Army) vs United States Naval Academy (USNA or Navy) game played at Municipal Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Philly Stand ticket has a face value fo $6.00 and shows each academy's seal. (USNA), During the rivalry, Navy massacred the favored Army 43-12. This was the 60th match-up and the first between both head coaches, Wayne Hardin Navy and Dale Hall of Army. The game was nationally televised, commentated by Lindsey Nelson (play-by-play) and Harold 'Red' Grange (color commentator). Navy junior Joe Bellino, played offense and defense and crippled by a leg injury from early October, scored touchdowns on runs of 15, 47 and 1 yards, while gaining 115 yards on 25 carries. If that wasn't enough, Bellino intercepted a pass in the third period and turned it in a brilliant 37-yard run. Navy QB Joe Tranchini directed the Middies' attack expertly, and ran two touchdowns of his own, an 11-yard scamper and a 1-yard plunge. Ronnie Brandquist added the final Navy score with a 1-yard plunge of his own. The Cadets scored twice, a 29-yard pass from Caldwell to Bill Carpenter and a 12-yard run by Bob Anderson. After the game, a crowd of civilains swarmed onto the field and leveled the goal posts. At the time, the 55 points scored in the game was the most points every scored in the annual and 43 was Navy's all-time high. Because of Navy's performance in this game, they were invited to the last available major bowl berth, to play Penn State in the Liberty Bowl.
