SANDY CREEK L5 METEORITEThe Sandy Creek meteorite part slice in this product is shown in the photo below above. The part slice weighs 6.7 grams and has been polished on one side. Meteorite will come with a (signed) description card.The Sandy Creek meteorite was found while grading an airport runway on July 6, 1999 in Clay County, Nebraska. One stone with the total weight of 1330 grams. The finder of the meteorite, and owner of the runway, could be called a man of talents. Being the person he was, he was smart enough to take the meteorite to one of the annual Tucson mineral and gem show(s). After using the meteorites there as a price guide, the finder proceeded to visit every meteorite dealer and collector he could find. Although he was turned down several times, and almost by all, he did manage to find one dealer that would pay his price. 55.7 grams of the meteorite was donated to UCLA, where A. Rubin classified the meteorite as a L5 stone chondrite, shock stage 4 and weathering grade 4. (Olivine Fa 25.2 +/- 0.6).
