You are looking on one (1) 1934 USS Cuttlefish 1st Day of Commission Event Cover with Ship Cancel. The cachet offered here is shown in the photograph below. This is a neat cachet that was "SPONSORED BY OFFICERS AND MEN OF U.S> SUBMARINE CUTTLEFISH." It features an illustration of the submarine floating on the water surface and notes "U.S.S. CUTTLEFISH" "COMMISSION JUN 8 1934" "SUBMARINE BASE, NEW LONDON CT." "LT. COMDR. C.W. STYER, U.S.A. COMMANDING." All of this is enclosed within a rope attached to a anchor. Cachet also has various sea life including, I think, a jelly fish. The cachet was canceled "JUN 8 1934" on the "U.S.S. CUTTLEFISH." The cover was franked with a 1934 2c George Washington Stamp (US Scott #803). Cover is a typical #6 size envelope that measures ~6 1/2" x 3 5/8" (inches) or 164 mm x 92 mm. It is addressed and is shown in the photograph below. The USS Cuttlefish (SS-171), was a Cachalot-class submarine the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for the Cuttlefish, a ten-armed mollusk similar to the squid. Her keel was laid down by Electric Boat Company in Groton, Connecticut, She was launched on 21 November 1933 sponsored by Mrs. B. S. Bullard, and commissioned on 8 June 1934 with Lieutenant Commander Charles W. "Gin" Styer in command.
