Ohio State, won this game 56-7, as two-time Heisman award winner Archie Griffin, then a sophomore, had 15 carries for 129 yards in the season opener. It was the first of 31 consecutive 100-yard rushing games in the regular season for Griffin, which remains an NCAA Division I-A record. The streak ended Nov. 22, 1975, in Griffin's final regular-season game. Also, during the 1973 season, Griffin became the first OSU sophomore to rush for 1,000 yards (1,577).
