Williams was signed by the Boston Red Sox as an amateur free agent in 1936. Wlliams played with the Red Sox from 1936-1942 and 1946-1960, serving in World War II (WW2). Manager of the Washington Senators/Texas Rangers from 1969-1971. Williams was a two-time American League Most Valuable Player (MVP) winner (1946, 1949), a seventeen-time All-Star selection (1940-1942, 1946-1960), led the league in batting six times, and won the Triple Crown twice. He had a career batting average of .344, with 521 home runs, and holds the highest career batting average of anyone with 500 or more home runs.
