This 1961 Basketball Stamp First Day Cover (FDC) features a Naismath Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame cachet. The cover has been hand signed by Basketball HOFer Charles Murphy, who signed it in blue pen "Stretch Murphy." Nice clean auto. The signature has been certified authentic by JSA (James Spence Authentication). A JSA sticker is attached to the back and the number matches the number on the JSA Certfiicate of Authentication which is also included. Front and back scans of the signed FDC and a scan of the COA are shown below.Former professional basketball player Charles C. Murphy was born April 10, 1907. Murphy played basketball at Marion High School (1922-1926) where he led his school to the Indiana State Championship during his 1926 senior year and at Purdue University (1926-1030), where along with fellow Hall of Fame member John Wooden, led the Boilers to an undeated season and a Big 10 Championship. "Stretch" set a new Big 10 scoring record for a season in 1929 with 143 points and led Purdue to a 53-13 overall record during his tenure. Murphy was named a Consensus All-American in both his junior and senior years and to the All-time All-American team. After graduating, Murphy played for the American Basketball League's Chicago Bruins and the inependent Indianaolis Kautskys. One of the game's first big men, Murphy was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame (HOF) in 1960 and the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1963. Charles C.
