Professional football running back Thomas Jones was born Saturday, August 19, 1978 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. Jones attended the University of Virginia where he played NCAA college football with the Virginia Cavaliers from 1996 to 1999, and finishing his collegiate career with 809 rushes for 3998 yards and 36 touchdowns while adding 71 receptions for 571 yards and 4 touchdowns. Jones was drafted in the first round, seventh overall, of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. Jones played with the Cardinals from 2000-2002, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2003 and the Chicago Bears from 2004-2006. Jones was traded to the New York Jets on March 5, 2007 and in his first season with the team rushed for 1119 yards and collected 217 yards receiving.
