Professional MLB baseball player Thomas "Tommy" Edward John Jr., was born May 22, 1943 in Terre Haute, Indiana. John was signed by Cleveland Indians as an amateur free agent in 1961, and made his Major League debut on September 6, 1963. He played for the Cleveland Indians (1963-1964), the Chicago White Sox (1965-1971), the Los Angeles Dodgers (1972-1974, 1976-1978), the New York Yankees (1979-1982, the California Angels (1982-1985) and the Oakland Athletics (1985) before returning to the Yankees to finish his 26-year career (1986-1989). During his last two seasons, the 45-46 year old was the oldest player in baseball.
This 4-time All-Star selection (1968, 1978-1980) led the AL in Shutouts three times (1966-5, 1967-6 & 1980-6) and helped guide the Yankees to three World Series appearances (1977, 1978 & 1981).
