Smith atended the University of Nebraska where he played NCAA college football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers under legendary coach Tom Osborne, earning All-American honors in 1987. The Kansas City Chiefs traded up in the 1988 NFL Draft and picked Neil Smith with the second overall pick. Smith played for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1988 to 1996, the Denver Broncos (1997-1999) and the San Diego Chargers (2000). Smith was a 6-time Pro Bowl selection (1991-1995 & 1997), a 1993 First-team All-Pro selection and in 1993 led the NFL with 15 sacks. Smith was a key member of the Denver Broncos Super Bowl XXXII & Super Bowl XXXIII Championship teams. In 2006, the Kansas City Chiefs retired Neil Smith's number 90 jersey number and inducted him into the Chiefs' Hall of Fame.
