Smith attended the University of Central Florida where he played NCAA college footall with the UCF Knights from 2005 to 2007. He started 34 out of 36 games for the Knights, establishing new school records with 905 carries for 4,864 yards (5.37 avg) and 45 touchdowns. His 4,864 yards rank second in Conference USA history. For his efforts, Smith was a Consensus All-American, a First-Team All-Conference USA selection and a C-USA Co-Offensive Player of the Year. The Detroit Lions selected Kevin Smith with the first pick in the 3rd round of the 2008 NFL Draft. During his rookie season, and sharing time with Rudi Johnson, Smith rushed for 976 yards and 8 touchdowns in 238 attempts.Professional football running back Steve Slaton was born January 4, 1986 in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania. Slanton attended West Virginia University where he played NCAA college football in the FBS division with the WVU Mountaineers from 2005-2007. After starting as the 4th string running back his Freshman season, Slaton won over the starting position and finished the season with 1,128 yards on 205 attempts with 17 touchdowns, helping the Moutaineers to a 10-1 record a inviation to the Super Bowl. In the 2005 Sugar Bowl (played Jan. 2, 2006), Slaton rushed for a Sugar Bowl record 204 yards on 26 carries and scored 3 touchdowns. Despite having a wrist injury all season, Slaton finished the 2006 season with 1,744 yards (third in the nation) on 248 carries with 16 touchdowns. During the 2007 NCAA season, Slaton rushed for 1,053 yards on 210 carries for 17 touchdowns. He also had 25 receptions for 348 yards and a touchdown. Slaton left the school with 3923 rushing yards and 50 rushing touchdowns on 664 attempts. The Houston Texans selected Steve Slanton in the 3rd round of the 2008 NFL Draft.
