Muhammad attended Michigan State University. The Carolina Panthers selected Muhsin Muhammad in the 2nd round of the 1996 NFL Draft. He played for the Carolina Panthers (1996 to 2004, 2008-2009) and the Chicago Bears (2005-2007). After leading Panther receivers in 1998 with 86 receptions for 941 yards and 6 TDs, Muhammad earned his first Pro Bowl selection in 1999 with 96 receptions for 1253 yards and 8 TDs. In 2004, he had a career high 1,405 receiving yards and 16 TDs earning a second Pro Bowl appearance and a 2004 All-Pro selection. Muhammad was the leading receiver on the 2004 AFC Championship Carolina Panthers that played Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XXXVIII. In Super Bowl XXXVIII, Muhammad made 140 yards on only 4 receptions, including an 85 yard touchdown that made the Panthers an extra point from tying the game. The Panthers chose instead to go for a failed 2-point conversion and would go on to lose the game 29-32. He was also the leading receiver on the 2006 NFC Championship Chicago Bears that played Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLI.
