DEPORT IAB IRON METEORITE 257 GRAM INDIVIDUALThe Deport in this product is shown in the photo below. This specimen is a nice individual that weighs 257 grams. Painting on the side of the specimen of Monnig collection number #M1.71, showing this came from the famed Oscar Monnig collection. (I think all Deport in collector's hands came from the Monnig collection at one time.) There is a fracture in this meteorite but it has been that way at least 10 years and appears to be very stable. I have included a cm ruler (not included in product) in the photograph for a size reference. Meteorite will come with a (signed) description card.bThe Deport Meteorite was discovered by Mr. James Rhodes, one mile east of Deport, Red River County in northeastern Texas in the early 1930s. Rhode sent 1300 gram stone to E. H. Sellards at the University of Texas in March 1932, who quickly identified it as a meteorite. Since the originally finding, a total of about 15 kg. has been receovered. Not much for an iron. The meteorite has been classified as an IAB coarse octahedrite iron meteorite.Be sure to add me to your favorites list!FREE US shipping. Canada and Mexico $10.00, Elsewhere $15.00.
