You are looking on one (1) 1983 United States Stamp First Day Cover Lot. The US First Day Covers in this product are shown in the photograph provided below. FDC lot includes: 1983 20¢ Joseph Priestley Stamp, Art Craft Postal Commerative Society FDC (US Scott #2038); 1983 20¢ Voluntarism Stamp, Art Craft Postal Commerative Society FDC (US Scott #2039); 1983 20¢ Concord Stamp, Art Craft Postal Commerative Society FDC (US Scott #2040) and a 1983 20¢ Physical Fitness Stamp, Art Craft Postal Commerative Society FDC (US Scott #2043). The envelopes are #6 3/4 size covers and measures ~6 1/2" by 3 5/8" (inches) or 164 mm by 92 mm. As they were all issued by suscription through the Postal Commerative Society they are all addressed. This United States commemorative postage stamp was released to the 250th anniversary of the chemist pioneer Joseph Priestley's birth. Priestly (1722-1804) is the recognized discoverer of oxygen, having been the first to isolate it in its gaseous state, and thereby helped usher us into the modern age of chemistry. Designed by Dennis Lyell, the stamp is based on an original watercolor of the 18th century scientist by early American painter Gilbert Stuart (1755-1828), famous for his portraits of President George Washington. The Federal Republic of Germany issued a stamp bearing the same design on the same day. Designed by German-American Richard Schlecht, the stamp features an artistic rendition of the ship Concord, which brought 13 families from Krefeld to the New World in search of religious freedoms.
