This product is for a museum sized Tektite from Guangdong Province, China, part of the Indo-Asian Strewn field. This tektite, shown in the photo below, weighs 206.3 grams and has a classic patty shape. Any tektite over 100 grams is considered big, any over 200 grams are large. Chemically and structurally unique this meteorite impactite is from China. Tektite will come with a (signed) description card.

Tektites are natural glass (of meteoric origin) that are found between a narrow equatorial belt of 80 degrees wide. They are often referred to here on eCRATER as being from "the moon" or "shooting stars", which they are not. A meteor/comet impact forced molten meteorite/earth up into the atmosphere where it quickly cooled and returned to the earth after its short visit to space! The earth was then rained on by tektites! Dated to be around 700,000 years old, the same age of tektites found in Thailand, Vietnam and other countries in Southeast Asia. The name tektites comes from the Greek word "tektos", which means melted. They are unusual, irregularly or at times intricately shaped piece of silica-rich glass (usually 65-80% SiO2). They have no crystal structure, and are therefore similar to obsidian but are not associated a with volcanic formation process. They are 6 to 7 on the hardness scale, have a specific gravity of 2.35 to 2.55 and a refractive index of 1.475 to 1.53.

Tektites exhibit a number of meteoritic features, including ablation and atmospheric melting, flight orientation, some have been tied to certain strewn fields, all quite difference from native rocks, nickel-iron found in some and more. However, they don't have Al - Nd isotopic characteristics of a long period of time in outer space and lack cosmic ray exposure. Dr. J. D. O'Keefe, Dr. D. R. Chapman and other scientists have found evidence showing a lunar origin of tektites. However the moon rocks brought back from NASA's Apollo missions have changed most to lean towards the meteorite impact theory, as I believe. Other evidence points to a meteorite impact theory as well. No astrobleme has been associated with these tektites yet but recent studies indicate that there could be one around the border of Thailand and Laos.

At one time, they where even quite common, however tons of them were used during the 80's for lapidary faceting. Metaphysical people have long used tektites for channeling energy in various ways.
